Chelsea Otterness
Teaching Artist
Bio
Chelsea teaches culturally responsive visual arts and supports social emotional development for her students in school and after-school programs throughout the county. She mentors high school student teachers while they learn to teach art to elementary school students.
Chelsea graduated from UCLA with B.A. degree in Internationship
Development, specializing in Chinese Language study. She is the Program
Director of Performing Arts and Creative Expression Instructor at Mount
Madonna School in Watsonville. Though her studies were not overtly
artistic, she gathered useful information along the way… every person
she met, every move she made… made an impression. She sought to find
what makes humans feel joyful… so she went to the source of human joy -–
children!!! These 'experts' know how to play, be creative, try new
things, explore! Now she is a full time student….uhhh i mean, teacher!
In the school of life. Come play with us!
Chelsea comes alive in moments that require creativity. She has found that children are very connected to that 'source' creative impulse. SWorking in spaces where children are meant to be free from the rigor and chaos of other realms of life -- and are able to unleash hidden talents and embodied expression -- is her cup of tea.
